Public Works employees are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the street, water, and wastewater divisions and all city-owned buildings.
Administration is responsible for engineering review and planning for Public Works projects and overall maintenance operations scheduling. Administration also assists the city council by providing information necessary for decisions affecting all of the Public Works Division and its employees.
Street Division is charged with maintaining the surface transportation system including the stormwater system. The division maintains approximately 13 miles of roadway.
Water Treatment and Distribution serves approximately 800 services and is comprised of water treatment, distribution, and storage operations. The 1.6 million-gallon per day (mgd) surface water treatment facility provides an average 0.5-mgd of treated potable water. The treated water is pumped to a 1 million-gallon storage reservoir.
Wastewater Treatment and Collection serves approximately 650 customers at the wastewater treatment facility located on the bank of the Pend Oreille River. The wastewater is treated to stringent EPA standards before being discharged into the Pend Oreille River. Recent upgrades have increased our treatment flow limits from 0.25 mgd to 0.5 mgd.
