The Priest River Building Department serves the community as the building code enforcement entity, for the State of Idaho adopted codes found under Idaho Statue title 39 chapter 41. The INTENT of our building department is to ensure that the minimum standards are met to: “safeguard the public safety, health and general welfare through affordability, structural strength, means of egress facilities, stability, sanitation, light and ventilation, energy conservation and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment and to provide safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations.” ( IRC-R101.3) In other words this quote is saying that this is the worst building you can legally build!
The PURPOSE of the Building Department is to ensure the safety of all buildings and structures in the City of Priest River through administration and enforcement of codes and ordinances regarding new construction, remodeling, and abatement of dangerous buildings. The department is also responsible for coordinating plan checks and issuance of permits for all construction, building demolitions, excavations, signs, and sidewalks. Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and gas installation permits are available through the State and regulated by the State of Idaho.
Our local building inspector is William (Bill) Cleveland. Bill worked in the construction trades for nearly 30 years before attending college and obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering Technology, in 2002. He began inspecting for the City of Priest River in 2008. Among his current certification are: B1-residential building inspector, B2-Commercial building inspector, and B3- plans examiner.
